Trant Engineering recently visited Forest Row C of E Primary School, providing a presentation on the importance of protecting water and challenging the students to create posters on what they’d learnt.

Nearby, Trant is rebuilding Southern Water’s water supply works at Weirwood Reservoir near the beautiful Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. Ashwood Forest is the home of Winnie the Pooh and is part of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The construction site, in an environmentally sensitive area, is enclosed by a timber security fence, some of which borders a nature walk.

The winning designs will feature on the hoarding. “We thought it would be great to challenge the children to create some designs that will brighten up the fencing.” says James Henderson, Director Process & Water at Trant.

The presentation discussed what water is used for and why it must be protected; particularly pertinent since the school is located in an area that is susceptible to drought and hosepipe bans are a frequent experience.

“This is a really inspiring challenge for the children”, says Miss Laura Drury who is the Head of School, “and it has given them an insight into why water is essential and the associated environmental aspects. The pupils were delighted to work with Trant Engineering to promote the responsible use of water in the local community.  We are so proud that their thoughtful, striking artwork will be displayed at Weirwood Reservoir and are all looking forward to visiting the site in the new academic year.”

The rebuild project at Weirwood will provide much needed security of drinking water supply in the surrounding area.
